The Alchemist

I recently finished reading The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho on a recommendation, and I quite enjoyed the story and its insights into life’s journey interwoven throughout it.

What most resonates with me from the book’s plot is that what we are meant to do, become, in our lives is a long and, at times, ambiguous succession of, often times, seemingly unrelated experiences.

The culmination of what we’d like to accomplish, or become, in our lives is most often not a singular path without a single deviation from what we once wished for ourselves. But this is ok, and practically the norm—at least for those willing to accept changes within themselves and to follow these through with love and purpose.

As the alchemist told Santiago, “when a person really desires something, all the universe conspires to help that person to realize his dream.”
