Phantasm

Manifesto:

Phantasm—to be: a digital gallery of curated art & aesthetic content, exhibited within and without thematic series; a platform for exchanging thoughts, awareness, and interpretation between viewers and artists.

Background:

Phantasm is an art, and personal, exposition project that I’ve been working on for a couple of years now; initially unintentionally, but then so. It began in 2015, when I first started screenshotting, on my cell phone, images of art, photography, and architecture that I was viewing, and excerpts from articles—and such—online that I was reading. These were all things that I related to, found interesting or insightful, and just thought were plain cool. Then, in 2016, I began feeling an urge to share this growing collection of art that I had amassed in my phone’s photo gallery, as well as a desire for anonymity while I continued to recede from sustaining an active presence, personally and publicly, on social media. These feelings of social distancing and sharing, of art and of myself, are what compelled me to create Phantasm.

I chose the name Phantasm based on its description (among several meanings) as a creation of the imagination, which I would consider art and all its forms. Phantasm is also partly derived from the Greek word ‘phantazein,’ meaning to display, make visible, present to the mind, and/or cause to be seen—all of which I intend to do for artists, their work, and interested viewers. I hope the content posted is interpreted, emotionally significant, and inspiring to you, as a viewer, in ways uniquely meaningful to yourself and your human condition.
