Monocular

This past weekend I received two monoculars that I ordered, a Gosky 12X50mm and Carson 6X18mm, that I’m going to be using in conjunction with my iPhone for photography.

For the past several years I’ve maintained cellphone photography as a hobby and, after spontaneously attempting to take a photograph through the lens of binoculars I had with me one afternoon, believe that I’ve discovered for myself a format that both suits and quenches my thirst for creation.

Maybe one day I will invest in an “actual” camera, but for now I am pleased to use my iPhone; and I am especially pleased to have come across this method of framing and capturing a photograph using a monocular, which produces a consistent and challenging ambit of composition.

I have the feeling of inspiration surging, cyclically, from my surroundings, through me, and manifesting itself anew, into a different form—a photographic image.
