Island

I just finished the book Island by Aldous Huxley, and would certainly recommend it to others who long for a more meaningful, and less materialistic, life.

Aldous had the amazing ability to so clearly articulate thoughts and awareness, which he does in Island as beautifully as he does in Doors of Perception—one of the most influential books on my life thus far.

Awareness, in the here and now, is one of the book’s central themes, as repeated by the Mynah birds on the island. It’s also a central aspect of life for those who live on the fictional island of Pala, and unfortunately, something which lacks in most non-fictional parts of the world in which we live.

What a difference it could be, for lives lived, if we were to adopt similar principles, traditions, and structures of education as the fictional Palanese.
